Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates.Pilates called his method Contrology,because he believed his method used the mind to control the muscles. The program focused on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. Boundless Energy’s Pilates instructor, Rebecca King was certified in New York City and is a classical ballerina who trained as a professional dancer in New York City, including Broadway performances. Pilate's can be done by someone at any level of fitness. Pilate's is a non-impact body conditioning routine that seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance and coordination through graceful movements that will not add muscle bulk. In addition, Pilate's can increase circulation and help to sculpt the body and strengthen the body's "core" or "powerhouse" (torso). Pilate’s students regularly feel they have better posture, are less prone to injury and experience better overall health.
